What is the Child Behaviour Checklist or CBCL?
The CBCL is a standard and widely used 99-item questionnaire to be completed by parents. It was designed to assess children aged 18 months to 5 years but has also been used successfully with parents of children aged 1 year.
The CBCL assesses a range of emotional and behavioural symptoms that can occur in very young children, and should take around 20 minutes to complete. This can sometimes be too demanding for parents of very young children, and so we would like to see if a shorter questionnaire can be just as useful as the CBCL. If this is the case, the information will be very valuable to researchers and clinicians in the future, as this will allow the shorter questionnaire to be used on a wider basis.

What is the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire or SDQ?
The SDQ is a shorter 25-item questionnaire that only takes around 5 minutes to complete. Research studies have shown that scores from the CBCL and the SDQ are similar, but we don’t know if this applies to very young children (12-24 months old).
